🧺 Appliance Revival: Deep Cleaning Your Dishwasher and Washing Machine for Better Performance

Hello Maintenance Masters and ShimmerHome Customers!

Your cleaning machines need cleaning too! Over time, residue, soap scum, mineral deposits, and mold build up inside your dishwasher and washing machine. This accumulation reduces their efficiency and can transfer dirt or smells back onto your dishes and clothes. Regular deep cleaning ensures peak performance and longevity.

1. Deep Cleaning the Dishwasher

  • The Problem: Hard water deposits and food grime build up on the spray arms and filters.

  • The Solution: Remove the lower rack and detach the filter basket (usually at the bottom). Scrub the filter under running water. Run an empty hot cycle with a dishwasher cleaner tablet or a bowl of white vinegar placed on the top rack. This descales the interior and sanitizes the spray arms.

2. Deep Cleaning the Washing Machine

  • The Problem: Mold and mildew thrive in the damp rubber gasket around the door (especially front-loaders) and soap dispensers.

  • The Solution: Use a dedicated cleaning wipe or a strong solution to thoroughly wipe down the door gasket. Run an empty hot cycle using a washing machine cleaner or bleach (if safe for your model) to clear out internal residue and bacteria. Always leave the door ajar after use to allow the drum to dry.
